Now, this is a hidden gem!
Located in tiny Vinjerac, just on the shores of Velebit channel across Seline, no one would ever expect a tavern of this quality to be found. But, in the past few years, this has become a must visit place for everyone looking for great sea food. It is also known for great value and charm!

So, since I had a meeting with one agent, I decided to make it special and take her there for a dinner. Yes, it was mid March and it was Thursday but, unlike other taverns in Dalmatia, this one was open. How can you expect any business if your doors are closed?
Once we got there, it was already quite dark and did not take any pictures of the village or of the tavern from the outside. We walked in and were met by the owner Edi – a very funny guy always playing tough!

The whole philosophy there is to decide the main direction of the meal and then you just let go. It is also a slow food tavern so don’t expect leaving there soon!
We started with shellfish in spider crab sauce and shrimp in mustard sauce. Both perfectly balanced although the shellfish were a bit raw for me, my companion was raving about the taste.

This was, by far, one of the best sea food dishes I had in years! Angler was perfectly grilled and the sauce was tender enough to gently compliment the fish. Just one great dish!

We were enjoying Korta Katarina’s Pošip with all this which is not regular on their wine list but I am sure they will introduce it for next season.

The dessert was not quite typical but it was a great ending: “drunken grilled figs” and a fig cake(?) that I did not remember and it was not that special. The grilled figs were excellent!

Dinner for two with a bottle of wine, 735 Kn or 100 €

“Pece” is located in Vinjerac – drive north from Zadar to Posedarje and continue towards the old Maslenica bridge where you will see a sign for Vinjerac. Follow the road and, once you enter Vinjerac, watch for a big stone wall on your right. There you will see a wooden sign.
It is open year round but make a reservation nevertheless so they can have something fresh (out of season) or you get a table (in high season). It is very popular and don’t expect just to walk in in Summer months.
